Once you have written, edited, and published a novel, you be asking yourself "what now?". It is one thing to write a novel and get it published, it is another thing to get it read. Getting your name out there is a difficult thing to do; however, in today's social media's presence, it's easier then ever to get noticed.
First things first, you must get reviewers. One can do this either through ARCs or once the novel is published. In other words, you can send reviewers an Advanced Reader Copy before publishing, then when published you already have reviews. The other option is to publish the novel then ask reviewers to review your book and alert their followers of your book release. Reviewers are your way into the book world. You need high profile readers to tell the other readers about your new novel. Be aware though, you may get negative reviews. This is a give and take process. If you go to reviewers asking for reviews and feedback be aware you may get negativity.
How exactly does one get reviewers?
This process is quite lengthy. You will likely spend hours working on this. There are different platforms one can use to get reviewers. I personally recommend Instagram and Reedsy. In another blog I will go into more detail on how to get reviewers.
Now that you have reviewers, you must work on building yourself an author portfolio and author profile. To do this, find which social media platform is best for your audience. In other words, if your book's audience is YA then use Instagram and Twitter. If your audience is adults and seniors use Facebook. Now that you know which media to use, build up your profile. In other words, create an alluring account. It is very important to make sure your account appeals to your audience. For example, if your book is a thriller, your account should have a darker, more mysterious theme. I will be doing another post on recommendations to build up a strong profile. If you want to get the most attention for you novel, have every platform.
Now you must create your author portfolio. This is very, very important. Your portfolio is where readers, reviewers, publishers, editors, and etc will learn about you. In your portfolio include links to your books. As well, include a synopsis of each book (or each top seller). Lastly, make sure to keep up a consistent theme. For example, if you are a romance fiction author, your portfolio could be shades a pink, lavender, and orange.
Once you have created a strong media presence and a rocking author portfolio, you are practically there. Now you wait for your accounts to grow. Another tip is to get on Goodreads and Reedsy.
Good luck and keep writing!
