What is writer's block?

Writer's block is when an Author/Writer get's in a creative "funk" and has trouble writing and creating new books. Writer's block can happen at any time, for example, for me it happens right after a finish a novel/book. Writer's block can be frustrating and irritating. This blog will cover easy ways to get out of writer's block.

How does one get out of writer's block?

For the last two months I myself was in a writer's block. There are simple ways to get out of the "funk". Method 1 & 2 are great for new/inexperienced writers and Method 3 is great for published writers.

Method 1 -

Pick a book of your favorite (to write) genre. For example, if you enjoy writing nonfiction novels then find a biography/autobiography to read. This will help to get the wheels turning. After you finish the book, make a short list of the parts of the book you really enjoyed. This list could include character development, setting, etc. This list helps you get an idea of what to include in your next book. After you have created this list, brainstorm which movies/books you really enjoyed (in your genre of writing). Now you have a general idea of what you enjoy writing, similar ideas in your genre, and aspects you want to include in your next book. Now is the hard part, designate one/two hours to strictly writing. Use the ideas and aspects from the lists an write. You don't need to have a plan for your writing or an outline. All that matters is that you write. Even if there is no theme or pattern, just write. After an hour or so, you can reread your writing and decide whether you'd like to make that into an outline for a new book.

This is my favorite method as it helps you get through even the worst writer's block.

Method 2 -

This method is a little easier and quicker then method 1. For this method choose a designed template for your book genre. To access these, look up "(genre) novel template". Note: in my next blog I will be explaining which template I use for my novels. Once you have outlined your idea/book, set aside one/two hours to start the book. Once you are done now you decide whether you'd like to continue with this idea or start a new outline. Remember, your book does not always have to follow the outline, you can adjust and change it along the way.

This method I really recommend because it is easy and simple.

Method 3 -

This method can only be done for writers who have already written a book. In this method, you choose whichever book/manuscript is either the least edited or sold the least amount of copies. This method is simple, you are rereading and editing your manuscript. You don't have to reread/reedit the entire manuscript however. You can choose to only edit a chapter (10 pages). However, make sure you reread/edit at least 10 pages. This method can usually spark an idea or plan in your head.

This method is the hardest (because you must have already written a book); however, it does kill two birds with one stone.

Writer's block can be a big issue for many writer's. There are however many ways to get out of writer's block. I hope this blog helped anyone who is in writer's block! Feel free to comment how you get out of writer's block.
